Preparing Leak Reports

When leak features are placed and associated with their corresponding Water Main or Lateral features, statistical leak trends for system-wide or individual element/segments can be computed and analyzed. Two main statistics will be computed by the leak-analysis tool per pipe feature:

  1. Number of leaks
  2. Leaks per year per distance, computed as:

number of leaks on pipe x divided by the leak data range in years divided by the length of pipe x according to the model's units

Number of leaks (LEAKCOUNT) and leaks per year per distance (BREAKPERYRPERDIST) displayed in the Data Browser

With leak statistics computed on each individual Water Main or Lateral feature, three different leak analysis options become available:

  1. Generate a Crosstab Report, relating any two properties with computed leak statistics. For example, the user can prepare a two dimensional table showing breaks rate with the rows corresponding to material and the columns corresponding to year laid.
  2. Generate a Tabular Report, relating year-installed for pipes against computed leak statistics. For example, the user can prepare a table showing break rate in breaks per kilometer per year for each diameter pipe in the system (selection set or fence).
  3. Generate a new layer, by Exporting Leak Results Features to a new Map Manager layer, and use Bentley Map's analytical tools for further reporting and/or visualization.
This last option offers the choice between generating results features for:
    • Individual pipe elements, or
    • Aggregated to isolatable elements - pipes or series of pipes isolated from the rest of the system by isolation valves.
